Now that I have a fair amount of followers, I feel like saying these things are important. I haven't encountered a situation like this before, but I wanted to put it here just in case. If anyone needs me to put a content warning for a certain topic/mention of something, let me know. I try to CW things that I think could potentially be triggering, but at the end of the day, I'm only human. My timeline is supposed to be a safe positive place for anyone to be, and I try to make my content friendly and accessible for everyone. If there are improvements I can make, feel free to send me a DM. DM's are open for anything so long as you aren't weird about it and aren't being creepy. Genuine discussions are welcome, but weird creepiness will just get you blocked. Now. Carry on with your scrolling and/or reading!

FYI, if you want a chance that I'll follow you, you need:

1, a bio. I need to know who you are/your interests/just something about you as a person. Short, three word bios that tell me nothing about you don't count.

2, a few posts. I need to know what kind of content you're going to post so I can consider if this is the content I wish to see. And

3, to at least have interacted with me once. This last thing isn't always a must, but I like to talk to someone before I follow them.

Thanks! :dragon_happy:

Introduction

So in order for people to get a better feel/understanding of who I am, Here's some stuff I couldn't fit in the bio! Obviously, I'm blind, but I try not to let that matter. I enjoy anything involving games, music, and tech although I'm not as good with tech stuff LOL. I always try to be positive and happy, because that's the vibe I want to give people. I support anyone and any identities they may have. Be a good, genuine person and we're alright. :) I like socializing too, so don't hesitate to say hi or ask questions if something wasn't clarified here. I hope everyone who reads this has a great day! :dragon_happy:

Does anyone notice this bug with pinafore where no matter what you set the poll duration to, it still says it will end never? And after a poll ended, it says it ended never? That's weird

I use MetaText on iOS, and was unable to load new posts. I'd reach the item in a timeline labeled "load more", or whatever it's text is, and double tap. Nothing would happen. Turns out this item has rotor actions to let you decide which set of posts, older or newer, you want. I thought I'd share in case anyone else was as confused as I was.

Holiday/Christmas

@Kaliah I like it, but I put all my emphasis on my friends (in other words, the best "gift" I could have is knowing I have friends that support me.

Not like anyone on this instance could describe, but the emoji described that way is ↩ There's also ⤵ Which is right arrow curving down. For any sighted people who may see this and be able to describe.

I just saw an emoji described as, right arrow curving left. How TF does that even... Look?

I'm so happyyyy today. I don't know why, but I'm just... Getting good happy vibes from myself and the universe. I feel like everything is just right.

I do like it here on Mastodon, but the huge influx of people from Twitter means there are far fewer image descriptions than from even a couple of weeks ago. I’d love to tell every one of them about this, but quite frankly there are so many I don’t have the patience. I’d dearly love it if apps could block posts unless an image description was added to every photo, but I suppose that’s too much to hope for. I’m feeling really excluded from so many conversations. It’s getting as bad as Twitter.

I just crashed my computer. It’s been doing this lately for no good reason. Random ass things crash it, and I don’t understand why.

I need to know why, when I plug in my external hard drive, it fucks up my audio devices. I feel like it somehow in some weird way thinks that my hard drive is an audio device. Discord always freaks out and wants to switch, and if I am in the sound playback thing, mmsys.cpl from the run box, it does weird things too. I don't understand why this happens, because, as far as I know, an external HDD is *not* an audio device.

Holiday/Christmas

Here's a poll. :) How do the mastodon peoples feel about Christmas? I personally enjoy it a lot, but don't do too much to celebrate. We just decorate and do gifts.

It's 2:57 AM and my body has decided that I'm never going to sleep tonight. Thanks, body, for sleeping for two hours and deciding I need no more sleep. I really appreciate that. I'm literally not even tired. Even though I should be. I love how my sleep schedule can be ruined so easily.

One little mantra I have is this. If you screw with my friends, you screw with me. And if you screw with me, I'll screw with you a thousand times harder!

Did you know that screen readers read out emoji?

Did you know your extra emoji flair in your username gets read out?

@Estrella I swear by Metatext. Its free and open source, and fully accessible. The only issue I presently have with it is that with VoiceOver, you can't tap on people's profiles in the following/followers screens to open them. People are looking into it, though, and I just turn off VO, tap where I know their profile was, and turn it back on. Kind of annoying, but everything else about it makes it so worth it, especially because that's not something I need to do very often.

Honestly the official Mastodon app just exists because a bunch of people were flocking to Mastodon, and when they didn't find an official app, leaving, but the heart of Mastodon are third-party clients. This isn't like Twitter, where everything is limited, and I love it!

@Kaliah ***rant***: Same here. If you can't be bothered to put in the fucking effort to spell and use proper grammar, I'm not putting in the fucking effort to read the absolute shitfest of a message you typed, particularly if you know you should be using proper grammar and the like, but aren't because of laziness. Either get your head out of your goddamned ass and put in some effort to make yourself understood, or don't bother posting. It's that simple. I cannot tell you how many times I've seen posts from people who could have spent a little more time to make it look good, but didn't, because they just *had* to share that latest meme or whatever. ***Rant End***

@Kaliah This. All of this. Same goes for spelling. If you can't read what you typed, you need to spell better.

I literally cannot stand people who don't punctuate their messages/posts. If you write a message with multiple sentences, with absolutely no punctuation, there is absolutely no chance of me understanding it fully. I'm not going to put time and effort into something you clearly didn't put enough time and effort into. Read through it without punctuation. Take out any pauses from anything you read. See? It's terrible. And if messages are unpunctuated, that awfulness is what screen reader users hear. Every single time. It's overwhelming. Please. Just punctuate. It's basic grammar.

I know I've been gushing about #Pinafore lately, but seriously, I can't get over how snappy this thing is. It loads super fast, moving between toots and timelines is super fast with a screen reader. And the preservation of focus when going back and forward is just an absolute delight. It's like all the amazing potential of the web is actually manifested in reality instead of the typical suboptimal web experience that leads people to say that native apps are always better.
