I've been listening to the Take It Easy sound generator from #MyNoise for almost 6 hours now. Each time I take the headphones off, the silence feels weird and unfamiliar for a moment. That aside though, it's such a good thing to have in the background with animate on. Hell, MyNoise in general is awesome!

Job lookin, tech, Boosts welcome
After losing my job to covid last March I've had a hell of a time trying to find tech work. I gave up for a bit and did some bike wrenching but it's not making ends meet so I'm back on the job lookin train.
I have 18 years experience, mostly in systems administration, mostly in windows, but my experience is really all over the place. I've worked for government, university, fortune 100, small firms, consulting, data analysis, information security, kind of a Jane of All Trades. I have an associates degree and a bachelor's degree, and nine certifications that are still mostly relevant, one of which is the MCITP.
What I'm most proud of is my ability to figure stuff out. I'm real clever. I'm also able to communicate with non technical staff as well as super nerds.
So what's up, fediverse. You got any jobs?
Thoughts on sexuality and internet creeps: Getting to the root of the problem
It's PERFECTLY valid not to have a gf. It's perfectly valid to watch porn and hentai and play porn games. It's perfectly valid to jack off 5 times a day. It's perfectly valid to visit cam sites or to hire a prostitute. Yes, it's perfectly valid to hire a sex worker; in fact, it's perfectly valid to BE a sex worker.
Having sexual activities outside a monogamous relationship is PERFECTLY VALID.
You can have sex (including self sex) whenever you want. Just don't mix up romance and sex. That's when shit goes down.
When you realize you don't need society's permission to satisfy your own sexual needs, you'll realize you don't need to coerce women into sacrificing theirs for you.

❝Since her death in 1979, the woman who discovered what the universe is made of has not so much as received a memorial plaque. Her newspaper obituaries do not mention her greatest discovery. […] Every high school student knows that Isaac Newton discovered gravity, that Charles Darwin discovered evolution, and that Albert Einstein discovered the relativity of time. But when it comes to the composition of our universe, the textbooks simply say that the most abundant atom in the universe is hydrogen. And no one ever wonders how we know.❞ — Jeremy Knowles, discussing the complete lack of recognition Cecilia Payne gets, even today, for her revolutionary discovery. (via alliterate)
OH WAIT LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT CECILIA PAYNE
• Cecilia Payne won a scholarship to Cambridge.
• Cecilia Payne completed her studies, but Cambridge wouldn’t give her a degree because she was a woman, so she said to heck with that and moved to the United States to work at Harvard.
• Cecilia Payne was the first person ever to earn a Ph.D. in astronomy from Radcliffe College, with what Otto Strauve called “the most brilliant Ph.D. thesis ever written in astronomy.”
• Not only did Cecilia Payne discover what the universe is made of, she also discovered what the sun is made of (Henry Norris Russell, a fellow astronomer, is usually given credit for discovering that the sun’s composition is different from the Earth’s, but he came to his conclusions four years later than Payne — after telling her not to publish).
• Cecilia Payne is the reason we know basically anything about variable stars (stars whose brightness as seen from earth fluctuates). Literally every other study on variable stars is based on her work.
• Cecilia Payne was the first woman to be promoted to full professor from within Harvard and the first woman to head a science department at Harvard. She also inspired entire generations of women to take up science.
• Cecilia Payne is awesome and everyone should know her.

can you imagine if grocery stores decided to adopt this model lol
"i would like a can of green beans please, grocer!"
"well, i can sell you a can."
"does it have green beans in it?"
"green beans are on the loot table of possibilities, yes. here's the table that we're obligated to provide due to certain regulations in china, and as you can see, green beans is on there."
"...with a 1.5% chance???"
"well yes."
"and it's 45% chance for it to be mouldy beans that i hate?! that's the thing i have the greatest chance to get??"
"yes."
"........."
"but it's also a 0.05% chance to get the rare and special golden green beans, which are new for this limited event!"
Just witnessed my first instance of someone making a webpage with a user interface drawn only on the canvas. Completely inaccessible. Please, whatever you do, don't do it. I know Flutter does it, but don't. Please, please, don't. I was super happy not to have to deal with inaccessible Flash UI's anymore... even a bad website is better than this. :(
I look at the world through an aro perspective. That often means asking myself how the world is built around amatonormativity, who that hurts and leaves behind, and what exists beyond it.
While this isn’t a universal aro experience, I think an aro perspective can bring to the front questions like “what if someone never has a romantic partner, what does their life look like then?”. And, oh boy, once you start you can’t stop seeing how so so much of our world is built around the assumption that everyone will have one.

Hey, I urgently need to move to #berlin, and my flat arrangement just fell through, so I'm looking for a room. Ideally:
- lease at least until July
- with Anmeldung
- near Görlitzer Park (Kreuzberg)
- with lovely people
But I literally need to move in within 10 days, so I'll take anything. LMK if you/someone you know is looking for a mostly quiet, mostly clean, mostly vegan flatmate.
I'm a #blind woman from #Slovenia. I toot rarely, boost often.
