Federated services, such as <a href="https://framapiaf.org/tags/Jabber" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Jabber</span></a>, are relatively well protected against this specific danger. While it is easy to control one server, it is relatively hard to takeover all, even for state level actors.</p><p>Reminder to <a href="https://framapiaf.org/tags/XMPP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>XMPP</span></a> server administrators: Please use port 443 for direct TLS c2s, not e.g. 5223. It is good for both <a href="https://framapiaf.org/tags/privacy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>privacy</span></a> and service availability!</p><p>(But stay with 5222 for STARTTLS c2s. Better for old clients.)</p>
