So I'm a little confused. Did anyone else who has updated discord get this weird new layout?

Brandon Tyson
Quiet public

@Kaliah So my iPhone 8 doesn't have it, so it'll be interesting to see if my 2020 SE gets it.

Kaliah
Quiet public

@BTyson That's so weird. Why did I get it then

Brandon Tyson
Quiet public

@Kaliah It could be a gradual rollout. As an example, the App Store only showed that I could update to 193.1 even though you have 194.

Kaliah
Quiet public

@BTyson Yeah. Maybe it is. I really wish I could go back though because I don't like or want it, like I've said 35 thousand times.

Brandon Tyson
Quiet public

@Kaliah You could write a review in the App Store about it.

Kaliah
Quiet public

@BTyson as if that'll go anywhere. Still probably not going to make a difference because it probably looks good, and that's what matters to people. Forget accessibility, this looks better, so it must be better

Quin
Quiet public

@Kaliah @BTyson Okay but like actually what's your problem with the new interface? I'd very much like DMs to be their own tab. I haven't tried it yet, but that sounds nice as hell. No more wasting like 45 seconds trying to find the god damn DM button.

Kaliah
Quiet public

@TheQuinbox @BTyson My problem is exactly that. I don't want DM's in their own tab. I really don't. I prefer them at the top above the servers. And I also don't want my servers at the bottom of the screen as a second tab bar. Oh and did I mention that, if you have more than like 4 servers, you have to click an extra button to see the rest? I have lots of problems with the new interface.

Quin
Quiet public

@Kaliah @BTyson No, you didn't, hence my utter and complete confusion. Sending 50 replies to different people just saying that you don't like it is a very ineffective strategy for letting people actually know *why* to avoid it.

Quin
Quiet public

@Kaliah @BTyson Also, why the hell would you want DMs above the servers? That was always *super* buggy for me. Like, I'd hit the direct messages button, and get like 2 of them, then a random fuckin' server. Like what?

Kaliah
Quiet public

@TheQuinbox @BTyson I never had any problems with that. The servers were scrolled down the left side of the screen and I could touch on them, and the channels were in the right. Clicking on servers and stuff would change the channels in the right. That's simple and easy. This just makes it complicated.

Quin
Quiet public

@Kaliah @BTyson Yeah no, it never worked like that for me, the swipe order was always weird. I *never* explore by touch though, so maybe that's why? I had no idea servers were down the left side for example.

Kaliah
Quiet public

@TheQuinbox @BTyson Nope, they totally are. And I liked them by that. Also you think the swipe order was weird in the old layout, just wait until you see the new one. It's completely fucked up there too. I used the old interface by touch exploring, which is why I liked it.

Brandon Tyson
Quiet public

@Kaliah @TheQuinbox I have to incorporate explore by touch into my use of Discord even to not run the risk of the app crashing if there's a long message.

Quin
Quiet public

@BTyson @Kaliah Oh yeah, once again welcome to iOS. Not sure if that's an iOS problem but it doesn't happen on Android and it's build with a cross-platform SDK so shrugs.

Brandon Tyson
Quiet public

@Kaliah @TheQuinbox It's still weird that you never had the app crash completely when hitting a long message, whereas both me and Kaliah do, I think. Although 194 hasn't been offered for my SE yet.

Quin
Quiet public

@BTyson @Kaliah Oh I have. Just on iOS though. That was my whole point.

Quin
Quiet public

@BTyson @Kaliah Although I don't think that's an app crash. It apparently stays rendered visually.

Kaliah
Quiet public

@TheQuinbox @BTyson If there is a good way to submit feedback where people will actually see it and care, I'd gladly do that. App store reviews have never gone anywhere for me though, which is why I didn't. But if they have some other better way I'll bring this up for sure.

Brandon Tyson
Quiet public

@Kaliah @TheQuinbox It would probably be good to try that link Quin just sent.

Kaliah
Quiet public

@BTyson @TheQuinbox I am right now. I'm not sure which category it'd go in though, help and support maybe. Also does this link have any ties to email? If it does I won't be able to do it because my discord is linked to my old email I can't access.

Quin
Quiet public

@Kaliah @BTyson Help and support is what I did before. Well, before, I pinged them on Twitter, but y'know. Can't really do that now.

Brandon Tyson
Quiet public

@Kaliah @TheQuinbox I'm a bit nervous though, because I did use a page to try to report the lack of a way to change TTS voices and they just pinged it back that it's Microsoft's fault. I was really dissatisfied.

Quin
Quiet public

@BTyson @Kaliah Perhaps because it is?

Brandon Tyson
Quiet public

@TheQuinbox @Kaliah But how? They support both OneCore and SAPI (Discord does), you have to break all the other voices in your registry to get it to use the one you want if it's not what Discord preselects. Changing the preference in Settings>Time and Language>Speech, or Control Panel/Text-to-speech, has no effect on Discord.

Quin
Quiet public

@BTyson @Kaliah What are you talking about? Microsoft doesn't allow voice selection through WebTTS. Pretty simple.

Brandon Tyson
Quiet public

@Kaliah @TheQuinbox But for example, with Cyclepath, playing in my browser, I changed the selection in Control Panel and it respected it.

Quin
Quiet public

@BTyson @Kaliah Pretty sure it's a browser thing. I have the Cyclepath code, he literally just creates a WebTTS object.

Brandon Tyson
Quiet public

@Kaliah @TheQuinbox Ouch. I wish it worked more consistently. I don't recall which browser it was but I think it was at least Cromium-based. And my thinking was, it worked in Cyclepath in a Cromium browser, so why does it not work the same in Discord, since Discord's also Cromium-based? Does that make sense why I'm confused?

Quin
Quiet public

@BTyson @Kaliah No, because you weren't running Cyclepath as an Electron app. If it works in Cyclepath as an Electron app though I would be, but it doesn't. At least it didn't for me.

@Kaliah @TheQuinbox So are you saying you think that Electron apps have different permissions than a Cromium browser, even though both use Cromium?

Quin
Quiet public

@BTyson @Kaliah It wouldn't surprise me whatsoever. Cyclepath is doing absolutely nothing special, though. I just looked at the code. All it does is create a window.speechSynthesis object, create an utterance, stop the current one, and then speak.

Brandon Tyson
Quiet public

@TheQuinbox @Kaliah This is good to know and I'll definitely take a look. Is the Cyclepath installer still available?

Brandon Tyson
Quiet public

@Kaliah @TheQuinbox Thanks! :)

Quin
Quiet public

@BTyson @Kaliah WTF...metatext is weird. It's putting Kaliah first in the list of mentioned people even though you're replying to me. That's horrible.

Kaliah
Quiet public

@TheQuinbox @BTyson I noticed that. It was confusing me so much.

Quin
Quiet public

@Kaliah @BTyson And today, in how to utterly fail at a very simple task, I present to you...that!

Brandon Tyson
Quiet public

@TheQuinbox @Kaliah I manually fixed it for this one. I'm sorry for the confusion...

Quin
Quiet public

@BTyson @Kaliah Don't feel bad, it's Metatext's shitty design. I can't recommend Mona enough.

Kaliah
Quiet public

@TheQuinbox @BTyson Yeah. Mona's great

Brandon Tyson
Quiet public

@Kaliah @TheQuinbox I should try it at some point. I kept meaning to then got busy.
