I can't wait for all of the Apple fanboys who also hate AI to loudly complain for days and then hand over their money.
@Jage I'm probably going to be one of those. SUCKS! But aside from that, I want to see all the "how can I turn all the AI stuff off that I paid for" articles that come out.
@BorrisInABox @Jage It's more sad to me that more people can't see the usefulness of tools that AI can provide. Does it have problems? Oh yes. But it's useful, at least in some situations. I've gotten several projects done because of it athat I'd understand at a high level, but couldn't put it into code. As if that will change people opinions of it, but I think it's more in how you choose to use it.
@blindndangerous @BorrisInABox @Jage Actually the code use case for these models is one of the worst use cases, because the result is code the user doesn't understand and which is often problematic from a security standpoint. It's copypasta on steroids which is causing actual problems for things like FLOSS projects.
@acarson @blindndangerous @BorrisInABox @Jage Relying on AI to code for you is like copy pasting what Google translate comes out with, then wondering why people are asking you why your restaurant menu's telling them to do <insert thing here> to their mums.
@KaraLG84 @blindndangerous @BorrisInABox @Jage Basically yes. Except where people usually realize you use Google Translate when you need a rough idea of something but it's not reliable, with AI coding they go "Yay let's use this in the work codebase!" which is a bad idea.
@acarson @blindndangerous @BorrisInABox @Jage Yeah. Where my wife used to work, someone literally did what I said and got complaints about it.
@acarson @blindndangerous @BorrisInABox @Jage I don't think the result was as drastic as what I said, but it wasn't right anyway.
@KaraLG84 @blindndangerous @BorrisInABox @Jage Depends on the language. Some are worse than others.
@acarson @KaraLG84 @BorrisInABox @Jage Shrug, guess I"ve gotten lucky. Or maybe what I'm asking it to do itn't complicated by your guys's standards. Ah well, I use it as a tool when it's needed, and use common sense.
@blindndangerous @acarson @KaraLG84 @BorrisInABox @Jage I think we're not going to see the consequences of some of the mistakes of LLM-based coding for a few years.
