does mastodon support ? and another: how do you write a link in markdown? do you put the link url first or the text you want folks to click on? i know the link text goes in {like this} and the url goes (like this). is this correct? Thanks for any ehlp.

TLDR it supports displaying markdown but not writing in it. There are however some forks (like Glitch-soc) which do support writing it. I use one of these myself and quite enjoy it.

I think adding markdown or any other rich-text/formatting options, beyond perhaps italics, would have a significant negative impact on the experience of reading feeds. Having so many different things in front of you at the same time (multiple feeds, full of multiple toots, with avatars, icons, controls) is already visually taxing, making it “messier” might make it overwhelming.
