With iOS 18, the Phone app has been upgraded in a few different ways.
T9 dialling is the most obvious new feature, and its addition will please many iPhone users are have been accustomed to having that feature on their previous Android handsets.
To use T9 dialling on iOS 18, simply go to the Keypad in the Phone app. Dial in the numbers corresponding to the first few letters of the person’s name you wish to call. Each number button represents three or four letters, so just press the relevant number.
iOS will automatically filter the address book to find possible matches. The matching person’s name and number will appear at the top of the screen. Tap on the name to confirm and initiate the call.

@simon @GreenSkyOverMe iPhones never had T9 on their dialers?
@sabreW4K3 @GreenSkyOverMe No, that was specifically a feature Google added to their phone app. I didnt know about it for a long time, and think it's brilliant. Glad the iPhone decided to copy it.
@simon @GreenSkyOverMe it has been a feature since dumb phones. My old Nokias used to have it.
@sabreW4K3 @GreenSkyOverMe Oh, TIL. I only ever knew of it on Android. It might've been a feature on my dumbphones but without proper accessibility. LG was famous for making phones that mostly talked until one particular screen, where the voice prompts just ... weren't added for some reason. Either way, this will make a lot of people happy and it was very overdue.
@simon @GreenSkyOverMe it's a proper handy feature. I always thought it was an accessibility feature, hence being so surprised. I'm glad it's now ubiquitous.
@simon Just tried the T9 dialing, I like it a lot because I was a nokia user and used T9 a heck of a lot.
@simon I never even knew that was a thing on my android. That’s kind of cool.
