So, since about this time yesterday afternoon, my world has gone rather right-heavy. I've been having a slightly blocked left ear since, hmm, Sunday or Monday, and its usually cleared up by now, however, yesterday it got stuck in let's filter the world mode. Decided to visit the docs today, and he confirmed that its a buildup of wax that's gone hard. Something that doesn't usually happen much to me. I now have drops to take, and getting the syringe on Monday. Oh boy.

Public

Ear update. Wow. After only one night of drops, and some deep cleaning in the shower, the ear is much, much closer to normality again! Will be interesting to have them both flushed on Monday and see what highs I get back overall.

Public

Well, today's the day. I can definitely feel stuff moving in there, wanting to come out. Hopefully the drops have done their job and the wax isn't too hard. Hearing is still mostly good, although now if the wax moves wrong it blocks again. But hopefully that's a good sign.

Public

So. I forgot to update yesterday, but I'm happy to say my ear is now fully unblocked and back to normal! It was a weird sensation and sound as the syringe was removed, after pumping water in there, and there was this awesome crackling noise and all the sound returning as the wax came out. I had to rebalance once I stood up, though.

Quiet public

@arfy I"m surprised they didn't just vacuum it out. OH boy drops though, haven't had those in a while.

Quiet public

@cordova5029 They would have, but probably wouldn't have done much if the wax was hard, I imagine. Yeah nicki tells me the drops will make the ear go crackle crackle. buzz? lol

Quiet public

@arfy yeah, it'll probably go crackle, and not buzz, but definitely fizz, and kind of fif.

Quiet public

@arfy ever had one ear go flat, or sharp, and the other stay standard?

Quiet public

@cordova5029 oh god? no. that sounds bad. I have the entire existance go sharp or flat when I've had a cold.

Quiet public

@arfy no, this only happened to me once, I went to dial a phone number, and the dial tone, regular standard American, was flat, listening to music at all was a dumb idea. iV'e had the cold thing too though, but this was odd. my ear was plugged, and it only lasted a day, but along with being plugged, it was flat.

Quiet public

@cordova5029 Damn. you're probably too young to have heard an old-fashioned dial tone of any stripe live. Aside from our friendly fwoofy doorbell recordings.

Quiet public

@arfy I've heard the b flat thing live, from about 91 to 94.5 where I live now, had the b flat dial tone, and the well, it was like a nasal ring for hte ring. I can immatate it, I can't remember what they called it in phreak land. it kinda went ke onk, but modulated. CDO ring maybe?

Quiet public

@cordova5029 wow. your exchange must have still been a step CDO.

Quiet public

@arfy yep, until 94. I wish I could like, research the old exchanges for like Duluth and Carlton and Cloquet. I'd also love to know what all the 2 letter combinations where. There was this thign called the phone exchange project, but it never let me use it right, you had to select your country and region from a bunch of combo boxes

Quiet public

@arfy then in like, the middle of 94 it became american standard.

Quiet public

@arfy Oh, yes, I’ve been plagued with this issue most of my life, and it doesn’t get any less fun for me. When it’s cleared out, there’s no better feeling, though.

Quiet public

@Pipistrelle oh no! and welcome to my corner of the fediverse! I've seen you boosted a lot.

Quiet public

@arfy Thanks. I guess i’m just not afraid to be my weirdo self. Maybe the other weirdos recognized that. LOL

Quiet public

@Pipistrelle hahahah. Weird is good! Hungry isn't good, though, so off to solve that problem and satisfy the hunger monster.

Quiet public

@arfy Know that one. hahaha.

Public

@arfy Oh yikes. Plugged up ears due to wax build isn't fun at all. I've experienced that numerous times.

Public

@WingnutKV I've had it a few times, but its managed to clear itself before now. and it hadn't gotten to the point where an ear was almost filtered out completely

Public

@arfy I have to be extremely careful with making sure I don't get a lot of wax in my ear, because I can only hear out of one ear. Every bime I go to the ENT I have to have the wax removed and it isn't pleasant at all.

Public

@arfy So sorry you have hardened wax in one of your ears. Hope the ear medicine starts to loosen up things very soon.

Quiet public

@arfy Glad to hear it!

Public

@arfy I can remember many years ago. my mom didn't do drops with wax like that. she actually had you put a little bit of peroxide in your ear, hold your head sidewaze so that that ear was up in the air keeping the peroxide in your ear. she had you stay like that for a few minutes, and then have you lean your head to the other side with a coton ball in your ear so that the peroxide came out into the cotton ball, and any wax it loosened up. surprisingly it actually worked, but you did hear like a crackeling sound while it was in your ear as if you put soda in your ear, if that makes sense.

Public

@jamminjerry hahaha. Yeah that would work, although the first day I put the drops in, there was definitely some crackling going on. and even then I was able to clear the blockage enough to mostly here in stereo again. Even that was soooo much better.

Public

@arfy I don't know why the peroxide works, but it actually does.

Public

@jamminjerry @arfy Alcohol works as well.

Public

@arfy it saved us from going to the doctors. lol.

Public

@arfy Hope it all goes well, or by this point, went well.

Public

@arfy that is awesome to hear that your hearing, and your ear is back to normal.

Public

@jamminjerry thanks! Its been rather annoying this last week or so.

Public

@arfy oh trust me, I can completely understand! my hearing wasn't effected by hard wax, but try this. a double ear infection. I had lost around 90 percent of my total hearing for a week do to having a very bad ear infection in bothy my ears. I had to take antibiotics for it.

Quiet public

@arfy Very good to hear! Literally!

Quiet public

@Pipistrelle *giggles*. possibly also *rimshot*

Quiet public

@arfy As often happens, my brain just spits out puns before I realize what’s happening. *giggle*
