I've been ordering a lot of Uber Eats recently because I'm able to combine BOGO offers with 40 or 50% off promos, so I could get a $80 order for $20 plus fees, on a good day. And fees here are pretty reasonable compared to some big cities. Unfortunately, Uber seems to have caught onto this, and now items that have a promotional discount already are not counted toward the promo at all. Probably means I'll be ordering much less, so at least there's that. It was fun while it lasted.
On the bright side, Uber Eats seems to have done away with tips altogether. They may have slightly increased fees, but the total amount for an order has gone down. I'm glad I can now decide to tip drivers afterward instead of adding one before the driver even got assigned, which never made sense and left me feeling like I had no idea what a fair tip actually looked like.
@simon Do you have Uber one? I have it and it gives me these 50 percent off promos. It tells me there valid until a certain date and when the date eventually gets reached it just pushes it back like a week. I don't know if this is suppose to be a thing and they just tell you that so you actually use it or something is bugging out on their end. It's always the same ones, for at least a month now
@ivan_soto They do eventually stop giving them, but yes, that's normal. I used to get them all the time, until I used too many of them.
@simon Glad you enjoyed it while you could.
@simon yeah i noticed that you can no longer apply discount to BOGO or discounted items
@simon sometimes drivers can really be crap and I regret having set a base tip, so I'll set it to like 9% and then add an extra 5-10% afterwards depending on their service and how well they followed the clear instructions on where to park and head into the apartments to find our unit.
@simon wait really? I don't think they have done away with that here. It has been a few days since I ordered but will try again.
@bmoore123 @simon Seeing this thread, and having ordered my steak on my traditional Steak Night Friday via Uber Eats, I can certainly say that pre-tipping is most certainly still a thing up here in Canada.
@bmoore123 @simon Oh LOL. My oversight. Then I be confused too.
@adam @bmoore123 It might be specific to certain provinces; I'm in BC. Or even certain cities. They did away with pre-tipping in Seattle long ago, for instance. But I live in a nothing city, so I'm not sure if that's likely. Will ask my friend from Vancouver:
@simon @bmoore123 Ah, makes sense. They definitely have stopped the promo stacking here too though. Was pretty shweet when those came along, LOL.
@simon stupidly, the uber eats here in australia still asks for a tip as you place your order and also when you rate the driver. lol. it’s so stupid, specially in a country where tipping isn’t the normal. here in australia we have minimum wages. it’s expected you make most of your living from your work, not people tipping you before you’ve actually done anything amazing / good. grrrr. lol.
@simon Not in the UK. It's frustrating because it's by far the cheapest option if you have Uber1, but I am not at all on board with American companies trying to export their broken tipping culture, particularly when you have to pay extra just to make sure they don't go half way around the world before they even arrive at your door.
@KaraLG84 @simon It would honestly piss me off far les if their delivery fees were halfway reasonable. Makes you wonder where all that money is going if not to the drivers, particularly given that food ordered from these places is routinely more expensive than it would be if you ordered in person anyway, not even counting the extra charges. Dominos and Justeat do include the option, but they're much better about not trying to force it down your throat.
