@fireborn wait - THAT'S what brltty is for? I recently messed around with an esp32 dev board and I couldn't flash it. The documentation just told me to disable or uninstall brltty. This worked, so I didn't question it further then. Now it sounds like this was similar to the docs telling me to just shut off all my monitors?

@ecori Yes. brltty is for braille displays. Unfortunately, it eats your serial ports for breakfast. So if you want to program an ESP32 or are a ham radio operator and want to change your radio firmware *and* use brltty, I hope you have time to right a million and one udev rules.
